GLOBAL WARMING

BeyondClimateChangeBanner copy.jpgBeyond Climate Change

The consequences (of climate change) will overwhelm us if we do not soon take intelligent, decisive action. - Paleontologist  & Environmental Scientist William Riedel

The world’s population is increasing rapidly, and we are disrupting Earth's systems at a rate that will lead to catastrophes within our lifetimes unless we change our ways radically.

People are already aware of global warming caused by our burning of fossil fuels, and action is being taken to address this serious problem. However, there are other problems in regards to Humankind’s relationship with the Earth that are equally grave, though not yet widely recognized. This film describes these issues, and proposes solutions.

We have attempted to change the face of the Earth according to an incorrect image of humanity, following flawed codes and interests.

Humankind’s actions go more and more against our true role and place as another species in the natural order of our world.

The feature-length documentary 'Beyond Climate Change' is set to enter pre-production, after a long period of development. Based on a study of the same title by environmental scientist William Riedel, this  British/Australian co-production is being delivered by Frontier Media, with Portuguese filmmaker João Paulo Simões at the helm. Principal photography is provisionally scheduled for early Autumn 2009 in Australia: This ground-breaking film will outline aspects that go 'Beyond Climate Change' and their lasting, mostly irreversible, effects on the geology of our planet - pointing towards possible solutions in terms of environmental sustainability.

This film is being developed by João Paulo Simões/Frontier Media and William Riedel D.Sc. in Australia - where the majority of these drastic changes are most blatant, and where most of the production will take place. Riedel researched and wrote the original 'Beyond Climate Change' study on which the documentary is based.

“Beyond Climate Change”, which will outline aspects that have yet been fully expressed in any other global warming documentary, is still in its intial stages but an online presence has already been created following the notion that interest should be gathered as a means to secure further support and contributions.

Please visit the link below, where more information can be found and requested. The production is also accepting online donations, via Paypal to go towards initial costs:

(A concise biography of scientist William Riedel, on whose studies “Beyond Climate Change” is based, can be found further down this page.)

Biography of Scientist William Riedel D.Sc

William Riedel, born in South Australia\'s Barossa Valley, studied geology at the University of Adelaide under the tuition of renowned Antarctic explorere, Sir Douglas Mawson. His studies also included zoology and botany. In 1976, Riedel was awarded a Doctorate of Science. Eventually Dr Riedel focused on paleontology, specializing in research on the microscopic skeletons of Radiolaria, an open-ocean planktonic group.

For many years, Riedel’s scientific work has been based at the Scripps Institution of Oceanography (later known as the University of California). From this institution, he led a number of expeditions exploring the deep ocean floor, concentrating mainly on the Pacific region. Riedel also spent two seasons researching in the Antartic (on an Argentine Navy icebreaker), and a number of forays into the Indian Ocean and the Caribbean. His research also included related scientific work in Sweden and in France.

For over forty years, Dr Riedel has played a substantial role in initiating and implementing a multi-national Deep Sea Drilling Program, which has, over time, drilled through crucial oceanic sedimentation to provide an unparalleled record of the ocean’s history.

Riedel, has investigated 50 million years of radiolarian evolution, demonstrating their utility for age-determinations, and subsequent, paleo-ecological interpretations. In addition, he collaborated with colleagues in pioneering studies of calcareous nannoplankton and ichthyoliths (teeth and scales of fishes).

In the 1990s he was one of the founders of the Web-based journal Palaeontologia Electronica. During that same decade he developed artificial intelligence programs to assist non-specialists in the identification of radiolarians and the interpretation of ocean sediments.

During his time at Scripps Institution of Oceanography, a colleague (Charles David Keeling) made the first world-wide series of high-altitude measurements of carbon dioxide concentrations, the major factor in determining global warming.

Riedel's paleontological work required a broad understanding of the history of the Earth and its plants and animals, over the past several hundred million years. In retirement, he has researched Humanity, our institutions, and their impact on Nature.
