"The secret of health for both mind and body, is not to mourn the past, not to worry about the future, nor to anticipate troubles, but to live the present moment wisely and earnestly." - Buddha

RELAXATION TIPS
Picture
“See how nature—trees, flowers, grass—grows in silence; see the stars the moon and the sun, how they move in silence...We need silence to be able to touch souls.” -  Mother Teresa
“It’s ok to have butterflies in your stomach. Just get them to fly in formation.” - Dr Rob Gilbert

"When we are unable to find tranquility within ourselves, it is useless to seek it elsewhere." - Fancois de La Rochefoucald (1613 - 1680)

  • · As soon as you wake up in the morning, spend a few moments focusing your mind on something positive. This may be a prayer of thanks for a new day, an image of something or someone who makes you happy, or even a memory of something fun or funny you have already experienced. Also think of one positive thing you will ensure that you will do during that day.
  • · Start the day with an activity such as yoga, meditation, prayer, tai chi,  go for a walk, or even write in a journal. But don’t forget to also make time to have a good breakfast because your body and mind will become stressed if you don’t give it the nutrients it needs to stay awake and alert.
  • · Begin the day with a smile. Smile at yourself in the mirror. If you have a partner or children, smile at them. If not, smile at your pets and the people on the train on the way to work.
  • · Focus on relaxed, deep, slow, and complete breaths. The more shallow your breathing, the more anxious you become. The reverse is also true. The slower and deeper your breathing patterns, the more relaxed your body and mind becomes.
  • · Check your self talk. What are you saying to yourself in your mind? Are you saying positive things, or are you giving yourself feedback that is making you anxious? If you listen to what you are saying to yourself, you can counteract the negative inner dialogue, and replace it with positive affirmations or statements.
  • · Is your diet stressing you out? Caffeine, alcohol and  sugar can make you edgy, tired, and stressed.  Try to keep the consumption of these types of foods to a minimum. As you would have heard a zillion times before, aim for a balanced diet with plenty of fruit and vegetables, two litres (purified) water daily, some protein and carbohydrates. A person copes better with the hectic pace and tension of our modern lifestyle when the body is nourished by a balanced diet. Recent studies have revealed that trans fats and other harmful fats trigger down moods, while good fats such as omega 3, can help to improve your emotional state. So, if you want to feel generally happier as well as healthier, reduce your intake of harmful fats and increase your consumption of foods high in omega 3 oil, such as flaxseed (highest natural source of omega 3 oil) and walnuts.
  • · Make up some relaxing sound collections. Put together tapes or CD’s of your favourite sing-along songs, dance tunes, and natural sounds, and whenever you are feeling a little tense, put on one of your collections and let the sounds work their magic.
  • · Take the dog for a walk. If you don’t have one, take yourself for a lovely long walk, and regularly. Walking is not only a great to de-stress, keep fit and trim, but it also reduces blood pressure, stress levels, and improves bone density.
  • · Read a good book.  Or read a really bad one if you are having trouble sleeping - it will probably help!
  • · Get comfortable on a couch or in bed and listen to a CD of soothing music or natural sounds. Maybe sprinkle a little meditation oil, or some essential oils like ylang ylang, jasmine, or lavender, around to add to the ambience.
  • · Draw a warm bath. Surround it with candles, add bubbles and essential oils to your bath, and sit in it until you turn into a prune, or the water gets cold!
STRESS MANAGEMENT
A lecturer, when explaining stress management to an audience, raised
a glass of water and asked,
"How heavy is this glass of water? "

The answers ranged from 20g to 500g.

The lecturer replied,
"The actual weight doesn't matter.
It depends on how long you try to hold it up.
"If I hold it for a minute, that's not a problem.
If I hold it for an hour,
I'll have an ache in my right arm.

If I hold it for a day,
you'll have to call an ambulance.
"In each case, it's the same weight,
but the longer I hold it, the heavier it becomes. "

He continued,
"And that's the way it is with STRESS.
If we carry our burdens all the time,
sooner or later,
as the burden becomes increasingly heavy,
we won't be able to carry on. "

"As with the glass of water,
you have to put it down for a while and rest before holding it again.

When we're refreshed, we can carry on with the burden. "

"So, before you return home tonight,
put the burden of work down.

Don't carry it home.
You can pick it up tomorrow.
Whatever burdens you're carrying now,
let them down for a moment if you can. "

"Relax; pick them up later after you've rested.

Life is short.
Enjoy it!

And then he shared some ways of dealing with the burdens of life:

* Accept that some days you're the pigeon, and some days you're the statue.

*Always keep your words soft and sweet, just in case you have to eat them.

* Drive carefully. It's not only cars that can be recalled by their maker.

* If you can't be kind, at least have the decency to be vague.

* If you lend someone $20 and never see that person again, it was probably worth the cost.

* Always keep in mind, it may be that your purpose in life simply to be an 'example' .

* Never put both feet in your mouth at the same time, because then you won't have a leg to stand on.

* Nobody cares if you can't dance well. Just get up and dance.

* A truly happy person is one who can enjoy the scenery on a detour.

Spending quality  time with your pets can be therapeutic and relaxing.

The best and most beautiful things in the world cannot be seen or even touched
they must be felt with the heart.

Eternity
If I find,
One moment,
In pure happiness,
I will stretch it,
To fill
An entire lifetime.
